Christmas With You

reprinted with permission

This is my first time sharing a poem with my companions in the SIDS community. It is written in memory of my son.

Decorating the tree with ornaments
of memories through the years,
Searching,
I cannot find you
through the tinsel and the tears.

Wishing I had a Christmas with you
I'd laugh at your pudgy hands,
As you reach up to the stars in my eyes
I dream of you as a man.

A baby's cry interrupts my thoughts
to her diaper I should tend,
This Christmas she is here for me
My heart she tries to mend.

She reaches with her pudgy hands
to wipe away my fears,
She smiles at me,
I see your face
through the tinsel and the tears.
