We Love You "Baby Cole!!"

October 2, 1995-January 31, 1996

On January 31st, my third day back at work, we lost our second baby Cole Joseph Sanchez to SIDS. Our dear friend, Curtis, wrote and read this letter at Cole's memorial service, as he held a baseball in his hand.

Dear Cole,

On Thursday, I was asked what I did to improve my spirits in times of sadness and despair. I had only one word.....Baseball, and as I sat overlooking a ball field wondering about all the great mysteries of life, I realized that we will never see you play baseball. We will not see you take your first steps or hear your first words. We will not see you ride a bike for the first time or bring home those perfect grade cards. We will not get to see you hit the ball and run around first base and slide into second. We will not get to wipe your tears after being thrown out in a close play at home or have you jump into our arms in victory. We will not get to play catch, but I am confident, Cole, that you will get to do all these things and more. Cole Sanchez you will always have a permanent place in our line up, and you will forever be our favorite little catcher. Although you chose to visit us only for a short while, I believe you touched all the bases as you have our hearts, because you have rounded third and are heading for home.
