Baby Andrew

by Ellen

July 28,1998

I feel so much better telling people my story. Andrew was my third child (5th pregnancy). I have a great pregnancy with him. I loved being pregnant. I did not care if I went late. I enjoyed every day being pregnant with him. I did not know he was a he until Andrew was born. I wanted to be surprised! Andrew came out looking very blue. I did not see him because they had to take him and work on him right away. It wasn't until two hours later they diagnosed Andrew with d-transposition. They had to switch the great arteries. They had to transport Andrew to another hospital one hour away from where I was. Two days later I went to see him.

They performed the surgery giving us a 95% success rate six days after he was born. Andrew died that night. He had chronic heart failure at the end two many hours of surgery. He was the cutest thing. It's such a tragedy. I sometimes don't know where to run. The only time I got to hold my baby was when he died.

If anyone would like to email me my address is jeffreygallonio@sprintmail.com

Thank you
