A Gift Gone

My wife and I recently lost our son, Wiley, to SIDS on May 2nd 1996 searching through the Internet we found your homepage and the information found there was very helpful. I wrote a poem about our situation I thought you might like a copy of it so it can help other victims of the SIDS tragedy

Wesley and Shanan Stewart
Hutchinson, Ks.

A gift from above in the form of a child
Is truly pure love so helpless and mild

When you have your gift you often feel stress
Life in a constant shift many things seem a mess

Oh, we love our children don't get me wrong
But to be a good parent, the hours are long

When the gift disappears you ask God Why?
You shed many tears and all you do is cry

Then you ask "What if?" would they still be here
If I had done this, likely not, but you fear

Your care wasn't right , something you did was wrong
Could have checked them at night or sang one more song

People tell you , your great, that you did a good job
Emotionally you are spent still you cry and you sob

Your life must go on whether ready or not
Feeling the void, he is gone, nerves tied in a knot

You turn to God once again this time it's for guidance
To help free you from sin, his loving word will guide us

For we know this now our son is in heaven
In God's eternal care, Wow! Wiley is a lucky "Seven"!
