March 1996 Announcing the Pregnancy & Infant Loss mailing list List Server! The Pregnancy & Infant Loss mailing list is a place to discuss issues related to pregnancy & infant loss. The Pregnancy & Infant Loss mailing list is similar, yet better, than the older electronic bulletin boards you may have heard about. Why is it better? Because when you join the mailing list, the "conversations" which happen are delivered to you via email, rather than you having to go get them. When you place a message on the mailing list, that message is delivered to everyone else who belongs to the mailing list. This new List Server can be accessed from the World Wide Web three ways: 1) from the SIDS Network's SIDS Information home page at 2) from the SIDS Network's Pregnancy & Infant Loss page at 3) from the Pregnancy & Infant Loss List Server page at To participate in the Pregnancy & Infant Loss mailing list, you have to use two different email addresses. One accepts and delivers our messages. The other email address is used to manage the mailing list. The email address that accepts and delivers our messages is *infanlos@taex001.tamu.edu*. This is the e-mail address you must use to send a message so others can get it. In order to belong to the mailing list, to search its archives, and to interact in other ways, you must use the email address of the computer program that manages this mailing list: *majordomo@taex001.tamu.edu*. One of the common mistakes made with these mailing lists is sending a message to the wrong address. If you try to post a message for others to see to *majordomo@taex001.tamu.edu*, others will not receive that message. If you try to manage the mailing list by sending a command to *infanlos@taex001.tamu.edu*, it will not work. There are two steps to follow in order to participate in the Pregnancy & Infant Loss mailing list: 1) First, you need to subscribe to it. The list doesn't accept postings except from subscribers. You can send email directly to *majordomo@taex001.tamu.edu*. Before You Send Mail To The List Processor, Be Very Sure That Your Own Valid Email Address Has Been Entered Into Your Web Browser's Return Address Field. On the first line of the body of your message type: subscribe infanlos followed by a space and then your first and last name. On the second line type: info infanlos Send the message. You did it! You joined our mailing list! You will receive email confirming your subscription and giving you lots of information about the list and how to use it. If you get really stuck, send email to *janetes@gte.net*. We hope this mailing list benefits many people. The Pregnancy & Infant Loss mailing list is sponsored by Texas Agriculture Extension Service at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA. Thanks to a special person for setting this mailing list up: Jan Hoffman, SIDS Grandparent (her grandson, Devin Taylor Estes, was born July 3, 1995, and died September 11, 1995) For those of you interested in SIDS related discussions, the SIDS mailing list is available at The SIDS Network's World Wide Web Site is a vehicle to make information about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or SIDS, available to the tens of millions of people who use the "information highway". This site will grow and evolve as we progress up the learning curve together. Your patience, understanding, and contributions to this site will make it grow into a true network of people and information dedicated to stopping SIDS, the number one killer of infants between the ages of one month and one year. Visit this site again to see what is available. We encourage honest, constructive feedback to make this area as useful as possible. Please e-mail any articles, suggestions, ideas, and comments to: sidsnet1@sids-network.org. The Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Information Web Site was produced, and will be maintained by volunteers of the SIDS Network, Inc., an all volunteer, non-profit SIDS full service provider. The SIDS Network headquarters is located in Ledyard, Connecticut. Thanks!
