Comments: Tammy Bollinger San Leandro, CA My name is Tammy Bollinger, and in November of 1994, it was discovered at a routine ultrasound that my baby had died. I was 20 weeks and 3 days pregnant with my third child. As you all know from personal experience, that event has changed my life forever. Our daughter was delivered on November 12, and we named her Hailey Rose. I found it difficult to express my pain to friends and family, and I felt very isolated. I read a few books on the subject, and they did help. However, I found it difficult to find very many books on infant/pregnancy loss. I am currently collecting birth stories from families who may be just embarking on the long journey through grief. Recording the details of your child's brief life is not easy, but it can be an important healing experience. You will be asked to complete a comprehensive questionnaire, as well as share your birth story. Comments: I am 29, married for 10 years, the mother of two living children. We have lost two babies in our fouth month and I still have a very difficult time dealing with both of their deaths. Our first one occured 4 years ago in April at 16 weeks, a boy. Our second 1 year ago in March at 13 weeks, a girl. We have gone through the blood work and everything is said to be fine, tried fertility pills to try to get pregnant again without success. We have two beautiful little girls, ages 8 and 7. I am very greatful for them and they are my joy. I am so frustrated by the lack of support by those around me. Maybe someone has suggestions for me. |

Comments: I am the owner of a company that manufactures medical equipment - amongst other things, apnea monitors. This is in my opinion one of the better sites to peruse. Although there are different schools of thought on the subject of SIDS, I firmly believe that every parent should be at least afforded the opportunity to attempt to resuscitate their infants should the latter stop breathing at all. Be it purely apnea or SIDS. If the cause of SIDS is not known, how can we even think of not attempting a resuscitation. I believe that every infant born should be placed under the surveillance of an apnea monitor until it reaches the age where it is no longer necessary to be concerned. I wasn't aware at the time I was a coeliac. When I was sent to a dietican about my diet I was told that she had recently seen another coeliac who had also lost her baby to SIDS. Another time I was at the hospital with my other child and met a woman who had lost two children to SIDS and was there with her baby who was having apoena attacks. Could it have had something to do with the death of my daugher. |

Comments: I reside in Houma, La. On March 11, 1995 I had a miscarriage when I was 2 months. I was told that my baby had a 50/50 chance of survivng. I laid in bed for a week praying, thinking I wouldn't & couldn't lose my baby I had longed for. I learned after that there wasn't even a baby that it died when I was only 1month only the placenta grew. It's been 2 years now & I still long for that baby. I found this site through the JEMS (Journal of Emergency Medical Services)website. I am interested in this site, mainly due to keeping my skills up. Reading information like you provide here, helps keep me better informed on what the disease actually is. Comments: I am responding to Paige F. I just experienced by fourth miscarriage in December, 1996. All of them occurred in 1996. After the second miscarriage I had the usual round of tests and I was told that I had an antibody in my blood which causes my blood to clot so that the baby does not receive the nutrients required to continue to grow. Have your doctors tested for such antibodies? It is a common cause for recurrent miscarriage. There is a treatment for it. It consists of aspirin and daily injections of blood thinners. The treatment was unsuccessful for my most recent two pregnancies but the doctors think this is because I wasnt starting the treatment early enough in the pregnancy. I still try to hold onto hope that I will one day carry a baby to term. I have to keep this hope. If anyone has read any articles on blood anibodies I would appreciate the information. Also a work to Barbi, all you can do allow your friend to grieve without feeling that she shouldnt. Too many people view a miscarriage as a non-event. It is the loss of a child, and should be recognized as such. |

She was 3 mos. and 3 days old and had been 90% plus in weight, etc. We have used this site a lot since she passed away, and it has been incredibly helpful. Comments: i discovered your website 4 months ago when my daughter was 3 months old. i became paranoied checking to always see if she was breathing. she sleeps with me at night on a very firm mattress and i check her during the night as well. over the past few months i have become less paranoied. i stopped in tonight for what reason i am not sure but i am scared once aain. so many healthy babies die of this mysterious syndrome. also it seems several die while at daycare. i am supposed to return to work in 2 months. at that time my daughter will be 9 months but i know theree is always a risk of SIDS until age 12-18 months. one thing is that this site has made me not take my baby for granted. as a stay at home mom sometimes i get impatient when she wants to be held all day or when she won't sit still long enough for me to change her diaper. from this moment forward i will cherish each moment i have with her. i would also like to join the crusade for figuring out the cause of SIDS. please e-mail me anyone with ways that I CAN HELP. a0009843@airmail.net |

Comments: OHIO...Immediately upon the birth of my daughter two years ago, I experienced a deep fear of SIDS. I had read articles regarding SIDS and had heard of two other couples who had lost their babies from SIDS. I had experienced a very early miscarriage during my first pregnancy, and the thought of the possibility of SIDS dominated my thoughts until she was a year old. In fact, the first nine weeks I could only sleep with her on my chest at night sitting up in a recliner! We are planning on having another child and in order to combat the fear which I know will resurface, I think the only solution is to request some sort of monitor. I am searching for more info and preventative measures and have just started searching this site. My heart goes out to all the parents who have lost a child--through SIDS or any other way. |
