Comments: I live in Milwaukee,WI. We lost our baby Matthew to SIDS on Friday April
25, 1997 To make the tragedy worse, he was under the care of our day care worker who
happens to be eight and one-half months pregnant. I don't think she believes that she
isn't at fault. SIDS is something that has no blame. All we can ask is that everybody that
is touched by this loss, donates money to the SIDS NETWORK or to the church of their
choice. Our church is St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr Church 524 West Mitchell Street
Milwaukee,WI 53204-3599. Without our faith and the love of our friends, families, and
fellow parishioners; this would be even more unbearable. Our little Matthew was three
months old the day before he passed away. He is in heaven with his late Granpa and many

Comments: I would like to know how to get in touch with the parent who wrote the
letter (Jan. 29, 1997) that appeared at this website under MYOCARDITIS AND SIDS. The
letter said that her son's autopsy report showed that he had died from myocarditis. My son
also died from myocarditis and had previously been thought to be a SIDS death. My son's
autopsy was done at a major chidren's hospital. this hospital was doing a large
prospective research study of the viral causes of SIDS at the time he died. They found
that his fatal viral myocarditis was caused by Type II polio (OPV) vaccine. The virus was
isolated and identified from the diseased heart tissue. I would like to talk with the
parent who wrote the letter. Thank You |

Comments: Dr. T. Neuhaus / april 97 I am from a small town in Germany named Werther
and currently in the States. In 1989 we lost our son, Alwis there to SIDS. He was 3 1/2
months old at the time of his death. He was a "healthy" boy from birth on with a
birth-weight of 3.980 kg. He underwent the usual medical examinations, had a immunization
shot two weeks prior to his death, and taking the results of the autopsy into account,
there was no single known specific condition, which caused his death. He died in November
during day-time inbetween 14.00 and 14.30 during his mid-day sleep. I was home at the time
and checked on him sleeping in his crib. He slept on the stomach at 14.00 and was alive,
and I found him dead at 14.30 in the same sleeping position.There were no signs of a
violent episode, no vomitting, no sounds, the sleeping position after the event was the
same as before. Room temperature was at 20 degrees. He was breast fed and no one smoked
during his short life span at our place. I am a physicist and I would like to describe
here, what I have seen. Today we have 2 surviving children of age 9 and 5. Alwis would be
in-between, if he still would be here. I believe that SIDS has a unique cause, which I
know is not known today. I believe that sleeping position, smoking, cold flu, time of
death and gender are factors. But they dont explain the fact. We monitored then our todays
5 year old girl for one year. I recommend monitoring to all parents, which have follow up
children. Our monitor was not too stable and false alarms would sound every second or even
every night. The monitor had a sole sensor measuring breathing activity. I would hesitate

Comments: I am located in Garden Grove , CA. In Febuary I just recently have a
stillbirth and would like to connect with someone who has been through this to. This
unfotunately has been my third loss, two consecutive with two survivors in between. I am
going through a lot of blood tests and have come up positive for Rheumatoid factor. So Im
now trying to work on that to see how future pregnancies will be affected. Its been hard
on my husband, especially since it was his first . This was going to be my only daughter.

28, 1994 and he died Dec. 20, 1994 from SIDS. He was a beautiful healthy baby, I miss him

Comments: I live in Northern Virginia, am a recent new grandmother. My new
grandchild, Shannon born 3/21/97, has a problem that I have never seen in a child before.
In certain positions, at various times, for no reason that we can tell, she arches her
back, throws her head up and appears to be either gasping for air or trying to swallow.
She's been to the doctor twice for this but of course it doesn't happen when she's there.
She was tested for Reflux but that doesn't appear to be the problem. Since at times it
looks like she's gasping for air, I'm concerned that she might eventually become a SIDS
victim. Therefore, I thought I would start searching for clues. My heart goes out to all
the people who have signed this guest book. I don't know how I would handle what they have
experienced. It takes a very long time (a lifetime I'm sure) to handle the loss of a
child. |

Comments: new jersey. i have a 3 1/2 yr old son and just gave birth to a daughter
on march 13,1997. being a new parent again, i wanted mor information on sids.all this
information has been very helpful. my heart goes out to all the parents,grandparents and
other relatives who have lost there precious loved ones to sids. it is so sad that sids
has taken so many infants lives, and yet no one knows the exact cause,i guess we can only
hope that sometime in the near future someone will find out and then parents will be able
to prevent their childs lives from being taken away from them,before they have a chance to
live them. |

Comments: We are in Dallas area. We lost our 41/2 month old son, Chase, on October
15, 1996. He died at our daycare provider's home. We miss him terribly. We've just found
out that we are expecting another child in December, 1997. We are very hopeful and trying
to be optimistic that surely this time we'll have one of the children who will survive. We
are lucky to have received a tremendous amount of love and support from our family and
