years ago( february ). I consider myself a strong person, but her death brought me to my
knees in pain. As anyone who has dealt with a loss due to SIDS knows, nobody can prepare a
person for such a sudden and unexplainable loss in your life. WHY?WHY?WHY? Seems to be the
first thing that I can remember feeling. I say feeling, because it seems to me that that
question took hold of my thoughts both night and day for a long time. To this day it is
and will remain a question that lingers in my mind. Possibly a search for an answer that
does not exist. My life, of course, has continued on as it will for many others. I know
that other parents that have and it is sad-to-say will have to deal with the emptiness. I
have no words of wisdom nor do i wish to offer any thoughtful insights into the reasons
for the loss of anybodys loved one. I would like to say to those parents, you are not

Comments: I am from New Jersey. My 5 1/2 month old nieghbor Kevin Barry Hartmann
died September 9, 1995. I miss him terribly. I wish that I never saw all the work done on
him by the EMT's. I would like to wish all these parents the best of luck and even though
I am just 14 I have a great ear and do my best to understand. I was there for my nieghbors
and now I am doing a project to raise money for the SIDS places in memory of my little
angel Kevin. I was his summer sitter I watched him most of the day and got extremely
attached to him. I still get the lowest of feelings some days but then I think of all the
other people. I want to help end SIDS and anyone who wants to talk. I do have a great ear.

Comments: Newport, Virginia. I found this site when I became a new mother and I
worried about SIDS constantly. My son is 15 months old now and I have heard that SIDS can
strike up to 2 YEARS even though it is rare. I stopped worrying when he turned 1 year old
BUT now my sister is pregnant and due in February so the worrying starts all over again
for my niece or nephew. This site brings tears to my eyes each and every time I visit and
I am here at least once every 2 weeks. My heart breaks for the parents, grandparents,

lawyer in Panama City, Florida, who has been asked by a family to investigate whether a
monitor should have been prescribed and provided, as they asked for several times, for
their 6-month old baby who had exhibited significant (even monumental!) signs of being at
high risk for SIDS. Their requests were denied time and time again. One evening after
napping in a chair with his baby on his shoulder, the father awoke to find the child blue.
Resuscitative efforts were unsuccessful. I would also appreciate being referred to experts

Comments: I am the coordinator for the Chicago Infant Mortality Study being
conducted in Chgo by Dr. Fern R. Hauck. The study is funded by CDC and NIH. We have been
collecting data for 2.5 year in the city of Chicago. We are now in the process of closing
the study and analyzing the data. I am always looking for new information on SIDS and
infant death. I can count on finding the latest information at the SIDS Network home page.
