SIDS: Reducing The Risk As featured in TheWashington
Post and on NBC television,
the video SIDS: Reducing The Risk brings together SIDS policy makers, scientists
and physicians in a unique 27 minute educational documentary. Risk reduction education is

die from this every year? What are the contributing factors (if known)? How can a person
know if their child is predisposed to SIDS? or can anyone tell this information? Thanks

Though I wonder about the accuracy of information in some sites. This is an excellent
site, the information is well presented and the text is co- herent. Other sites could use
a course on English writing! Thank you for making this information available! Happy

Comments : I lost my precious baby girl the morning of Sunday Feb.11th 1996. We
buried her on feb.15. My heart will always miss her and wonder what she would be like
today. I am already trying to cope with the coming holidays. I found her in her crib as
she died. I was the last to hold her on the day we buried her and I layed her into her
little angel vessel. It has been a little over 9 months and I still think of her all the
time. Sometimes I feel she is with me on my journey through this life. I have tried with
all my might to spread the word about SIDS but it seems there is nobody who wants to
listen or even think about the tragedy of loosing a baby to SIDS. If I have only 1 wish in
this life it would be to know that somebody somewhere found the cure or solution to SIDS.
Not only for me but for all the moms and dads and familys and friends who have experienced
the same pain that I have this past year. I live life a little different than before she
died, Im more compassionate to others who have experienced a loss. I pray harder, love
deeper and never take a single moment for granted. I miss her with every sence of my
being, my sence of smell, my sight, my hearing, my sence of touch for I will never kiss
her sweet forehead again. Please join me in the personal crusade to spread the word about
SIDS and the need for more research to end Sudden Infant Death. Little did I know before
her death that she was an angel sent to me to teach her lesson, I had forgotten to look
for her wings! My heart aches to see you and smell you and touch you again. I love you
with everything I am sweet baby, Happy Holidays! love forever, mom! |

Comments : Hello, I live in Lords Valley, PA. I am 18 and a volunteer
EMT/firefighter with a local company. I had a 5-month old patient about a year ago that
was not breathing upon our arrival at the scene. We did CPR the entire way to the hospital
but the beautiful baby girl never came to. The ER staff worked on her for about an our
before pronouncing her. Her death was ruled SIDS a few days later. This event killed me. I
think a part of me died with that little girl. I remember praying to God to take the life
out of me and tranfer it into this beutiful baby with every compression I did. It was no
use. I cried for weeks over this and still do occasionally. I read about your website in
JEMS magazine and decided to take a look in an attempt to better understand what took such
an innocent life. Your site is excellent and should be more publicized. It helped me sort
through some emotions that I have a very hard time thinking about. Thank you! Sincerely,
John P. Heck, Firefighter/EMT |

Comments : Request for Stories,Poems and letters about SIDS Experiences by African
American Sids Survivors . I recently lost my daughter A'dream, May 7th 1996 to SIDS. I
want to combine a book of memories of African American Babies whose lives have ended
suddenly and unexpectedly. I participate in many SIDS Functions and only get to se a hand
full of African Americans. This troubles me because I know that our babies are also
victims of SIDS and those parents are out there hurting too. I have decided to write a
book that will contain the many special memories of our African American SIDS babies in
memory of A'dream. I want this book to send a clear message to the community that it is
inappropriate to avoid teaching people about SIDS and ways to reduce the risk to new moms.
If you are an African American SIDS parent, or any parent who has lost a baby, PLEASE
forward your experiences to the following address A'Dream Memories 10209 Ridgefield Drive

thought some of you may be interested it. A man by the name of John Dennis, from Ontario,
left Saturday, November 23 for a 150 nonstop round the world trip on a sailboat in order
to raise money for SIDS. He has already mortgaged his home to raise $75,000 to charter the
boat and another $125,000 to upgrade it. He is offering people to "purchase one
nauticle mile" of his voyage for $25.00 (CAN) and you will receive a certificate for
it. If anyone is interested you can call the Canadian chapter of the SIDS Foundattion at
(905)471-4554. I don't know this man at all but this trip I thought may help some parents
know that people, who are not directly affected by SIDS (his children were born premature,
but did not sucumb to SIDS) still care and want to do something about this awful disease!
Thank you. |

beautiful baby girl. Luckily, because of a different health problem, it was discovered
that she has sleep apnea. They believe this is a possible cause of SIDS. It's still scary,
but we feel very fortunate to have an alarm sound everytime she stops breathing. We were
just trying to find out more information on these subjects. Our hearts go out to all those

knowing about a book I've written called "pregnancy after loss" It comes
recommemded from Maxine Weber Executive Director of SIDS South Australia. She says
"Jane has seen an obvious gap in information that is available for parents who make
the decision to have another baby after the death of an infant. She has tackled the issues
from a personal as well as a professional perspective. She has captured well the fears and
concerns that every bereaved parent feels as they make what is for them the difficult
journey from conception, through pregnancy, delivery, and the new baby's arrival at home,
It is a book I would highly recommend to all parents who must make this decision after the
death of a baby." Enquiries about how to obtain it can be directed to Regards Jane

Comments : Bay City, TX We currently have a 4 week old girl with central apnea. The
Southwest SIDS Research Institute stated that she was one of the sickest infants that they
had ever seen. We are trying to find information on the use of Theophilline currently used
in her treatment. |

Comments : My brother and his wife just lost their 5 week old daughter Grace Lynn
on Halloween on this year. Though I never got to meet her, hold her or spoil her like every
aunt should, I still love her. she will always be in my prayers. The memories are only
pictures that we have but she will never be missed. Now that I am 5 months pregnant my
husand and I are a little worried about what could happen. So any advice or information
would be helpful. |

minutes after birth on December 7, 1990. I would like to talk with others who can relate
or those who are newly bereaved that need help from someone who has been there.
